Medical treatment abroad for patients in Somalia

When someone in your family needs treatment that is not available here, the hardest part is rarely the decision. It is everything that comes after it: which hospital, in which country, at what cost, with which documents, and who will be standing beside you when you land.

Akabir Health exists to carry that part. We are a medical tourism company based in Mogadishu, operating within Akabir Assistance, and we coordinate treatment abroad end to end for patients travelling from Somalia.

What we actually do

We are not a hospital and we do not practise medicine. We are the team that sits between your family and the hospital abroad, and handles the parts that are difficult or impossible to do from Somalia.

• Medical file review. Our medical management team — doctors experienced in the relevant field — read your diagnosis and reports before any hospital is approached, so the plan matches the actual condition rather than a guess.
• Hospital selection. We approach the hospitals in our network that are genuinely strong for your specific case, rather than sending every patient to the same place.
• One clear quotation. The quote we return covers treatment, accommodation, assistance and transfers in a single figure, so there are no surprises after you arrive. Preparing it is free, and nothing is booked until you approve it.
• Visa assistance. We obtain the letter of invitation from the hospital and process your medical visa at the embassy. Read how medical visas work.
• Travel and arrival. A personal assistant meets you at the airport and accompanies you to the hospital.
• Interpretation. Our case managers are multilingual and your assistant interprets at every appointment, so you never have to explain your own case in a language you do not speak.
• Accommodation and transfers. Hotel and transport are arranged as part of the package, including for the convalescence period after treatment.
• Aftercare contact. Your attending physician approves the final reports before you travel home, and we keep your file so that follow-up questions reach people who already know your case.

How the process runs

1. You send us the case. The diagnosis, any reports, scans or discharge summaries you already have, and how many people will travel.
2. Our doctors review it and identify which hospitals are suitable.
3. We return a quotation covering treatment, accommodation, assistance and transfers.
4. You decide. Nothing proceeds without your approval.
5. We handle the visa — invitation letter, then the embassy.
6. You travel, and your assistant meets you at the airport.
7. You are treated, with our medical team in contact with the hospital throughout.
8. You come home, after the attending physician signs off the final reports.

What it costs

We do not publish price lists, and you should be careful of anyone who does. The cost of treatment abroad depends on the diagnosis, the exact procedure, how long you stay, the hospital, and how many people travel with you — so a number quoted before anyone has read your file is not a real number.

Our office is on Makka Al Mukarama Street, near the Immigration Headquarter, in Mogadishu. We are open Saturday to Thursday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and closed on Friday. Somali, Arabic and English are all fine.
